European Grand Prix This Weekend

Well the european leg is about to start up again for 2006. should see some interesting developments and improvements for this round espeically after the heavy testing done by all teams last week. Renault will be strong again, followed closely by the likes of honda, mclaren and ferrari. in no specific order of course. i just hope williams can have a good race cause i'd love to see webber on that top step of the podium

Race is on channel 10 on sunday night @ 11PM, expect delays cause of crappy big brother.
updates on qualifying and everything will be posted as it happens here!!!
vivboots

but the european leg started last race in imola. hopefully it will be an interesting race with mclaren dominating Twisted Evil
Yeheti

whoops forgoty about imola, they should have the "European grand prix" first that would make more sense and confuse richard a whole lot less
vivboots

what i dont understand is why they keep changing the order of races. usually after imola theres spain then monaco, then to canada and US.

Having seen the Nurburgring up close when I was in Germany last november im looking forward to this.....its so dam long.
Yeheti

i didnt really know you were that into f1 viv
vivboots

yeah i got into it heaps lately. since we left school could stay up and watch it.
nurburgring used to be like 20km per lap with 170 corners. people could never remember the racing line since it was so long. after nikki lauder crashed i think they cut it back to around what it is today Sad
Yeheti

yea he burned to death or somehting cause it took too long for the saftery crews to get to him, if you play gt4 they got the original track on it. tkaes about 10mins a lap. such a wicked circuit though. i wish they still used it
Brazilian Chap

I think Schummi may win this race and Ferrari is now getting closer and closer to Renault as the season goes by.

Wurz sets early pace in practice

Williams test driver Alexander Wurz set the fastest time in the first free practice session for this weekend's European Prix at Nurburgring.

Wurz clocked one minute 32.079 seconds to beat Honda's third driver Anthony Davidson by 0.320 seconds.

BMW Sauber's Robert Kubica was third, while Ferrari's Michael Schumacher was the quickest of the racing drivers with 1:32.858 from just four laps.

Briton Jenson was sixth fastest, ahead of Honda team-mate Rubens Barrichello.

Test drivers, without the pressure of conserving their engines, traditionally top the times in the first practice and Friday morning was no different with Austrian Wurz the man to beat.

McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen was eighth fastest, while Renault's world champion Fernando Alonso was one of 12 drivers not to set a time, including Red Bull driver David Coulthard.

Ex-Renault test driver Franck Montagny, who replaced axed rookie Yuji Ide at Super Aguri this week, completed 16 laps and was tenth of a second behind team-mate Takuma Sato.

Looking forward to seeing Barrichello trying to at least finish the race...
vivboots

who else here hates the 2 engine rule. now winning the championship is more about luck and reliability.
Cheesman

I agree its stupid and needs to be changed
Yeheti

hmmm i think it's better f1 is too expensive unless ur a manafacturer, you got nothin.
a thought to note...
toyota puts $30 from every car it sells into its f1 budget.
now toyotas estimated team f1 budget is about 990 million dollars
thats a shit load of cars to sell

Drivers see red over F1 flag

FORMULA One drivers and tail-end teams cursed the timing system after qualifying confusion at the European Grand Prix overnight.

A red flag warning, halting the action on the track, was issued erroneously and then immediately rescinded in the closing minutes of the opening knockout session.

But the damage had been done, with some drivers aborting their final attempts to go through to the second knockout session which then had to be delayed by 10 minutes while the problem was resolved.

"I'm massively p----- off," said Red Bull's Austrian, Christian Klien, who qualified 17th and starts 15th after the Williams drivers ahead of him collected 10 place penalties for unscheduled engine changes.

"All weekend I've been quick ... it was a really good opportunity for me and the team to be in the top 10 today.

"My engineers told me there was a red flag, so I slowed down and prepared to come back to the pits. But I was then told to continue, which was very strange as that normally can't happen under a red flag.

"So I did another lap. My tyres were worn but I was on for a good time until I came up to (Super Aguri's Japanese driver Takuma) Sato. He didn't look in his mirrors and ruined my whole lap and whole qualifying session."

Midland, whose drivers have yet to qualify higher than 18th, also complained that the red flag had prevented both Dutchman Christijan Albers and Portugal's Tiago Monteiro from completing their final laps.

"I really hope the organisers have an explanation for that," said Monteiro

"It might not be a big deal for them, but it cost me my second run and a potential attempt to break into the second qualifying heat."
A new, three-part qualifying system has been introduced this season, replacing the single-lap format used in 2005.

The slowest six drivers in the first session are sidelined, with a similar process taking place in the second. The fastest 10 then go into a 20 minute final qualifying to decide pole position.
