| Quote: | ENGLAND striker Michael Owen may miss the entire English season, his Newcastle United manager Glenn Roeder warned overnight.
Owen, 26, needs a second operation to repair a ruptured anterior cruciate knee ligament, which he damaged in England's 2-2 draw with Sweden at the World Cup finals.
"It's a long-term injury. I don't know if he (Owen) will play again this season," Roeder told the BBC.
"He's getting the best possible treatment and will have the best surgeon in the world operating on him.
"Michael has an injury that will take a fair bit of time to repair. If we put a date on it and we say that he will be back by next March and then he's not fit, then it will cause more problems."
The Magpies are short of strikers with the new season getting underway tomorrow.
Newcastle is at home to Wigan, with Shola Ameobi likely to play as a lone striker.
